I’ve been playing around with this poem for the last eight years, and this is the happiest I’ve ever been with it.
I think it’s neat how the gutters between panels work with a poem. They’re a step up from stanza breaks, but still more unifying than page breaks.
Then there’s the illustration between the words, which seems to function as an even greater break/pause that forces the reader to hold the previous line in the moment before reaching words again.
Does it surprise anyone that what most interests me about comics and poetry is time manipulation?
