Poetry Week, pt. 1
This Is Just To Say
William Carlos Williams
I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the iceboxand which
you were probably
saving
for breakfastForgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold
I decided that I should do something for National Poetry Month. I think that this has recently become Williams’ most famous poem, which I’m generally okay with. The last stanza is still one of the most cold and vindictive lines in all of poetry. In my head, “so sweet/and so cold” is aways read by Ricardo Montalban in villain-mode.
In a break from the way the month is usually handled, the poems that I’m using for Wednesday and Friday’s comics are going to be by living poets.

I would, but I have Wednesday and Friday sketched out already. Next year is still open though ;-)
